Christmas is coming, and of course, we’re thinking about presents. But what about children whose families are struggling to stay together? Whether through poverty, or violence or bereavement, children in Uganda in these situations most often end up in an orphanage.
Except in Tororo.
For the last two years, thanks to you and Child’s i, not one child in the Ugandan district of Tororo went into an orphanage. None. Zero. No children at all.
How? Special people like Ramadan and Yusuf, that’s how.
Amazing people, who know their local communities and, with training from Child’s i Foundation, give their time day after day, to keep families together, and help them stay strong even in the toughest of times.
Community volunteers like Yusuf and Ramadan, are a big part of keeping families together. They advocate for the rights of children and encourage families to care for their children, rather than placing their children in orphanages.

On Tuesday, 3 December, we are launching The Big Give Christmas Challenge and asking all our amazing supporters to help us find and train more people like Ramadan and Yusuf. Those special someones who put families back together, not just for Christmas, but forever.
We know lots of charities will be sending you their shopping lists this Christmas. We know it’s unusual to ask for gifts that aren’t ‘things’. And we know that things matter, especially when you don’t have enough of anything. But it’s people who make true change happen.
We’re so thrilled with what’s happened in Tororo, we want to spread the success, to more communities in Uganda.
So this year, while you’re thinking about what to get the most special people in your life, can we ask you to give someone special to the families who need them most?
Today, while you’re thinking about what to get the most special people in your life, can we ask you to give someone special to the families who need it the most?
