Last year, thanks to your generosity, we were able to move 44 children from orphanages into safe and loving families. These children now have a second chance at life and will grow up being surrounded by their families.
The old adage ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ truly exemplifies our work. Our community volunteers are our support system in advocating, supporting and educating families on the importance of children growing up in families. Last year, we were been able to set up a network of more than 400 trained community volunteers in Tororo District & Makindye Division. These volunteers are able to protect, refer and monitor children and families in their communities. Through our army of community volunteers, over 12,000 children were supported to stay in families in 2019.
One of our biggest achievements last year was signing partnerships with two more orphanages to help them reimagine how they care. This expansion is a huge milestone for Child’s i, and proof that we are changing hearts and minds and reimagining how best to care for children in our communities. We will be working closely with our new partners to reunite the children in their orphanages back into the community.
It was a great year, filled with major milestones, and making a difference in our communities. As we head into 2020 we are looking forward to ensuring that more children grow up surrounded by their families and transforming more districts in Uganda.
