“I want all children to have a stable home and be loved.” These heartfelt words come from Annette, a devoted foster mother in Mpigi District. As a mother of seven—three girls and four boys—Annette believes deeply that every child deserves a safe, nurturing environment where they can thrive.

In January, Buwama Police found two children, Christine and Jacob, left alone and malnourished for several days. The children were in urgent need of care and protection.

The Probation and Social Welfare Officer, in partnership with Child’s i Foundation, reached out to Annette, who had recently completed foster care training and been registered as a foster parent by the local government. Without hesitation, Annette opened her home to Christine and Jacob.

“My husband and I found the children in a poor state, so we immediately gave them food and warm clothing,” she recalls. “They needed care and compassion right away.”

Annette drew on the knowledge she gained from the foster care training provided by Child’s i Foundation to offer psychosocial support and love to the children. She also involved her own children in the process, helping them to welcome Christine and Jacob as part of the family.

The transition wasn’t without challenges. “At first, blending Christine and Jacob into our family was difficult because of their different behaviours,” Annette explains. “But with patience and regular interaction, they began to adjust and feel at home.”

Child’s i Foundation continued to support Annette and her family, providing regular visits and guidance through our social worker, Julius. This ongoing support ensured that Christine and Jacob received the care and stability they needed to thrive. Now enrolled in school, both children are flourishing in their new environment.

“We are so grateful to Child’s i Foundation for their support, especially with essentials like school fees,” Annette says.

Foster care, supported by dedicated foster parents like Annette and collaborative efforts between Child’s i Foundation and local government, offers children the chance to grow up in a family. Thanks to this partnership, Christine and Jacob now have the opportunity to thrive in the warmth and safety of a family.
