At the tender age of only 10 months, baby Sharon lost her mother to serious illness upon admission to Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala in January 2015.
She was referred to the then Malaika Babies’ Home where she received professional emergency care as social workers made preparations to trace for her family.
Luckily for Sharon, her paternal uncle who had been aware of her mother’s admission at Mulago soon contacted the hospital for her whereabouts.
The hospital’s Social Work Department directed him to Malaika and our social workers started working with the family to ensure that the child be reunited with her relatives.
A thorough assessment was done at her uncle’s home to ensure safety for child placement. Sharon was then reunited with her extended family at the end of February 2015, after a month in our care.
Since then, our social workers have been making periodic monitoring visits, and we are excited that she has continuously thrived and is happy, healthy and loved.
In July 2016, we worked with relevant Government authorities to successfully close her case. We are glad to have been a part of Sharon’s journey to give her a chance to grow up in her loving family!
